Georg Pisarevic has a different attitude to waste than most of us.

He sees what we simply want to get rid of as a resource for reuse and recycling and as the key to economic success. The "recycling enthusiast", who works as a waste consultant at the Burgenland Waste Association, is currently acquiring important expertise on the legal framework in his Master's degree programme in International Business Relations at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. He has chosen the Applied Business Law specialisation.

In my work, I endeavour to bring the waste management industry and the business world together. I firmly believe that environmental protection and economic success can and must go hand in hand.

Georg Pisarevic, student at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences

He therefore endeavours to illustrate and explain advanced methods of material separation and recycling. There is a clear vision behind this: "I want to build a bridge between ecological responsibility and economic growth by breaking through the logic of throwing things away".

The part-time student has already demonstrated his determination on numerous occasions. After completing his apprenticeship and A-levels in electrical engineering, he decided to study for a Bachelor's degree in International Business Relations. He liked it so much that he immediately enrolled on the Master's programme. He is now working on his Master's thesis, in which he is analysing how the EU waste directives are implemented in the various member states and what challenges this poses for the recovery of raw materials. Georg emphasises that waste management is an extremely complex field that requires clear regulations and legal certainty.

In his professional work, Georg gives lectures, works on projects and is committed to making complex issues tangible for people. His aim is to create understanding and develop solutions that are socially, economically and humanly acceptable.

Georg has found Burgenland University of Applied Sciences to be a place where the quality of teaching - by both internal and external lecturers - is of a very high standard. He particularly appreciates the university's human and practice-orientated approach. Time and again, he met people with great expertise who were able to convey complex content in an understandable way.

The Master's degree is an important milestone for him, but he would also like to develop further afterwards. He networks actively in organisations such as the ÖWAV and the VABÖ and sees his work as an opportunity to make a positive contribution to society.
