Planetary Health Charter 2030

The Planetary Health Charta 2030 is a strategic framework for action that aims to systematically integrate health-related climate competence into the education, training and further education of legally regulated health professions. It was developed in a participatory process and comprises four central fields of action:

  1. Development, implementation and anchoring of health-related climate literacy in initial, continuing and further training
  2. Development of a cross-sectoral strategy for climate literacy in the healthcare professions
  3. Climate-sensitive design of teaching and learning environments
  4. Strengthening transdisciplinary exchange, networking and cooperation

It is possible to commit to and sign the Planetary Health Charter 2030 on an ongoing basis. If you would like to support the charter, please send us your logo to

The development process

The Planetary Health Charter 2030 was developed in a participatory process. The starting point was a collection of ideas and the development of four central fields of action and three perspectives. Based on this, a charter questionnaire was created and sent out to interest groups in April 2025. A total of 151 healthcare professionals took part. Based on this feedback, a first draft of the charter was formulated and further developed in several feedback loops. The document was finalised following a charter workshop. In summer 2025, the charter was signed by professional associations as well as educational and practical institutions and officially sent out. The formal presentation finally took place as part of the Planetary Health Conference in September 2025.

As part of the Planetary Health Conference 2025, researchers, practitioners and students had the opportunity to present their contributions, research findings and projects and thus provide a comprehensive insight into the thematic diversity of Planetary Health.

The submitted abstracts illustrate the interdisciplinarity that is necessary to jointly think about and sustainably shape the health of people and planet.

The digital volume of abstracts serves as a reference work to further promote the central topics of planetary health and to anchor them in research, teaching and practice.

We would like to thank all authors, speakers and participants for their valuable contributions, commitment and inspiring discussions.
