In the footsteps of her father

Teresa and her father Werner Weintritt

For Teresa Weintritt, studying at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland had been on her mind for a long time.

Her father, who was one of the very first students on the International Business Relations programme more than 30 years ago, has left a lasting impression on her with his stories about this time. "My father always talked about his experiences at the university and emphasised how much the course helped him in his professional career. That made me curious," says Teresa.

The presentation of the degree programme at her school, the Theresianum in Eisenstadt, also encouraged her in her decision. "I had already covered economics at school and was able to acquire expertise in the field of tourism. This experience is now helping me in my studies and beyond," says Teresa.

The connection to her father is something very special for Teresa.

I think it's really nice that my father did the same degree programme as me. That connects us in a special way - we can talk about many topics, compare experiences and exchange ideas about the changes.

She finds it particularly exciting that some of her lecturers are former fellow students, some of whom her father is still in contact with today.

Werner Weintritt could recommend the programme to his daughter with a clear conscience, as he explains: "Definitely yes - I had an incredibly enjoyable and instructive time and still look back fondly on many great experiences today. I also knew what my daughter would be heading into and was sure that she would be in good hands there and would learn a lot for her future path."

Werner Weintritt is also a great role model for his daughter professionally. After completing his studies, he joined the Weintritt family business - a car dealership with three locations in the region - and took over the management of the company after working in accounting and other areas. Teresa also has a similar path in mind. "I'm following in my father's footsteps, not only in my studies, but perhaps also later in my career," she says.

Despite the changes that the university has undergone in recent decades, Teresa sees many parallels with her father's stories. "My father was in the very first year and raves about how familiar everything was. Even today, the atmosphere at the university is very personal and you have good access to the lecturers and other students."

She has particularly fond memories of the trip to Brussels, which was not only educational, but also deepened friendships within the study group. She is also very much looking forward to the internship abroad that she still has ahead of her. "My father always talks enthusiastically about his internship in Hungary and the exciting excursions. I hope that I will have similar experiences."
