For the 22nd time this year, the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland is organising the international specialist congress "e-nova" at the Pinkafeld Research and Study Centre. In line with the specialist focus of the organising Department of Energy and Environmental Management, current topics from the fields of
building, energy and environmental technology are discussed every year. This year's event is entitled "Buildings of the future?" and deliberately poses a question to discuss the medium-term development of the building sector in terms of networking, digitalisation and eco-social aspects.
All the papers presented at the conference and approved for publication are summarised in this volume and invite in-depth discussions.

The University of Applied Sciences Burgenland is organising the international specialist congress "e-nova" for the 21st time this year at the Pinkafeld Research and Study Centre.
In line with the specialist focus of the organising Department of Energy and Environmental Management, current topics from the fields of building, energy and environmental technology are discussed every year. This year, "e-nova" will once again focus on the building sector, including future developments in building standards and energy supply. In addition to the number one topic, digitalisation, decentralised and ecological solutions will play an important role. Developments in the legal framework for meeting national climate targets round off the specialist contributions and provide an outlook for the future of buildings.
All of the contributions presented at the conference are summarised in this volume and invite in-depth discussions.

The "Pannonia Research Award", "Teaching Award" and "Staff Award" are three prizes created by Burgenland University of Applied Sciences to publicise innovative achievements in teaching, research and administration. The "Pannonia Research Award" has been awarded since 2007. In 2014, the "Teaching Award" was presented for the first time and with the current call for entries, the so-called "Staff Award" has now also been presented for the first time.

In this volume, outstanding work by lecturers, researchers and junior researchers from the research areas of the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland on the topic of "Regional and European Future Issues" in the Departments of Business, Information Technology and Information Management, Energy and Environmental Management, Health and Social Affairs, as well as a particularly innovative concept by an employee, will be published. These were honoured as part of the "Pannonia Research Award" 2016.

25 years ago, the foundation stone was laid for the UAS degree programme in International Business Relations, the core of today's Business Department at UAS Burgenland. An ideal occasion to discuss the framework conditions, objectives, approach and results from an external and internal perspective.

Anatoli Berditchevski has helped shape this path for 20 years as a Russian professor and international networker. We are grateful and dedicate this volume to him.

Continuing education - thinking ahead - progressing

There are many reasons for changes to continuing education programmes for health professionals, and pressure is growing from many sides. Digital and cultural change go hand in hand. Generation Y & Co are demanding flexible and part-time teaching and learning arrangements.

Millennials & co have already internalised the phrase "educate further - think further - progress", and the acronym KEY (Keep Educating Yourself) is no longer a mystery. After all, it is directly linked to new options for action and opportunities to shape the healthcare sector.

The authors of this volume take a look at our changing educational society and discuss knowledge transfer in education and training for healthcare professions. Practice creates knowledge, and this needs to be emphasised, particularly in the non-medical healthcare professions.

The international specialist congress "e-nova" is being organised for the 20th time this year by the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland at the Pinkafeld Research and Study Centre. In its early days, it focussed on specific topics in the fields of building, energy and environmental technology, but from 2007 onwards the focus was on buildings and all their aspects, and since 2010 experts have regularly discussed "sustainable buildings" in Pinkafeld in November.

This year's 20th anniversary is an ideal opportunity to integrate the entire specialised spectrum of the Department of Energy and Environmental Management into "e-nova": Sustainable technologies focussing on buildings - energy - environment are the main topics of the conference. This volume summarises the presentations given at the conference. The conviction prevails that the event can provide valuable impetus for further developments in the subject areas in question through the possibility of exchanging experiences and networking.

MAnaging the Gaps of Intercultural Communication - Leading Intercultural Projects to Success

This volume was created on the initiative of an international week at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences in March 2015 under the motto MAGIC. This motto calls for the "gaps" in communication between cultures to be utilised productively. The multifaceted contributions show that the range of intercultural encounters today extends to almost all areas of life and that dealing with culture(s) concerns everyone.

The first part, "Culture in Management - Insights and Perspectives", provides an overview of the importance of culture in a variety of areas of work.

In the second part, "Culture in projects - effects and insights", these influences are explored in greater depth by presenting practical examples, studies and projects.

The international specialist congress "e-nova" is taking place for the 19th time at the Pinkafeld Research and Study Centre. Since 2007, the focus has been on the building with all its aspects such as energy turnover, comfort, ecology, but also health effects and user acceptance.

Since 2010, e-nova has been explicitly dedicated to "sustainable buildings". In Austria, space heating and air conditioning account for around one third of final energy consumption, which emphasises the importance of this topic. This volume summarises the presentations given at the conference. We are convinced that the event can provide valuable impetus in the field of sustainability through the exchange of expertise and networking at expert level.

As in other areas of society, the term "network" is becoming increasingly important in the context of hospitals. For this reason, the 58th Austrian Congress for Hospital Management was organised under the motto "Network Hospital".

This congress volume contains selected contributions on the thematic congress focal points "Networking care", "Networked management", "(Un)-healthy hospital workplace" and "Networked interprofessionalism in hospitals" with the aim of capturing the key messages of the speakers
and stimulating scientific discourse.

The healthcare and education system is on the move. Reorganisations in healthcare are associated with shifts in boundaries and the expansion of skills in the healthcare professions. In order to meet future challenges in the healthcare world, a reorientation in the training of health professionals is required
in particular.
The authors of this volume look at new paths for health professionals from different perspectives and with different emphases in relation to training and the world of work. Working in networks is becoming increasingly important, and the dialogue between healthcare stakeholders is to be promoted in the course of interprofessional collaboration

Selected articles on the results of market and opinion research in Burgenland

This volume illustrates the importance of market, opinion and consumer research in Burgenland, focusing on the areas of business, education and health. Each section is preceded by studies from a broad perspective, followed by specific examples. The first part sheds light on the situation of business people and employees, shows research strategies and gives an example based on the Mörbisch Lake Festival.

The second part describes job opportunities in Burgenland, looks at the situation of students at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences and presents academic writing as a key competence. The third part of the volume examines the health behaviour of children and young people and describes "Schoolwalker", a specific project to improve health.

The ready4health project is a joint initiative between Burgenland University of Applied Sciences and the Austrian National Accident Insurance Fund, which focuses on measuring mental stress in the workplace. This volume brings together current topics in this area. It provides an overview of the status of the underlying legal requirements, shows perspectives and best practice examples from companies, deals with occupational health and safety and conveys the positions of the Austrian Network for Workplace Health Promotion. The contributions were presented at the symposium of the same name on 6 May 2014 at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.

In cooperation with the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, the Austrian university of applied sciences degree programmes in the field of health have launched the Health Research Award. As part of this award, outstanding master's theses by graduates of Austrian university of applied sciences degree programmes in the field of health are honoured in the categories of e-health, healthcare, health promotion and healthcare management on the topic of "National and international future issues in healthcare". The anthology presents the winning theses of the Health Research Awards from 2012 to 2014 and provides information about the potential of the UAS graduates and their innovative and forward-looking answers to open questions in the healthcare sector.

Economic bottlenecks, rising demand for healthcare services and a shortage of human resources in the healthcare sector call for well-founded service and cost documentation and an increasing level of detail in process evaluation. Activity-based costing is a tool for analysing the costs of medical treatment processes in more detail, presenting them transparently and allocating them to cost units according to their origin
. Guided interviews with experts are used to identify success factors for the development and sustainable implementation of activity-based costing
. The application of activity-based costing for the production process of a "ceramic-faceted crown" is presented in a practical way.
The calculation result forms the basis for long-term positioning of the medical service.

It is beyond controversy that intercultural competence, especially within the area of tourism, is a requirement for professionals in the field. In order to develop this competence and to enhance internationalisation at home, the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland conducted three summer schools on tourism from 2010 to 2012 on the basis of CEEPUS grants. The summer schools brought together Austrian and international specialists working on a tourism topic in multicultural groups for the duration of ten days. The topic of the summer schools concentrated on regional development in tourism highlighting F&B products. The book examines the Summer School 2012 with the title "Power of Origin - Instruments of Sales Promotion with a Focus on Regional F&B-Products in Tourism" and provides lecturers' articles as well as the best workshop results of selected students.
