Students and lecturers on the Bachelor’s degree programme in Physiotherapy work together to organise a wide range of projects, visit healthcare and research institutions, attend conferences, undertake practical exercises and develop creative ideas for therapeutic practice, which they then put into action straight away. In this way, they gain and share valuable experience that provides them with the best possible preparation for their future careers.

Now it’s time to gain a lot of experience
While still at school, Katharina gave swimming lessons herself and realised: "I really want to do something with people. An office job is not for me." The solution: study physiotherapy.
Her first attempt didn't work out with the application. She worked for a year and tried again. This time she was successful - at two universities - and decided on the three-year bachelor's degree programme in physiotherapy at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland in Pinkafeld.
During her studies, life presented Katharina with a major challenge. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. "The internship at the Rosalienhof oncology centre was particularly upsetting for me," she says.
Nevertheless, she decided to dedicate her bachelor's thesis to the illness - in hindsight, this was an important help for the young student in coming to terms with the disease. "My mum took part in the free exercise programme "Krebshilfe bewegt" run by Krebshilfe Burgenland [SC1 ] and it did her a lot of good. The programme offers those affected free exercise sessions supervised by physiotherapists. I scientifically investigated the effectiveness and perception of this programme among the participants."
The results were extremely positive and the optimisation approaches identified by Katharina can be used to develop further offers in the future.
Katharina completed her studies in summer 2025. What will her future career look like?
