The bachelor's degree programme aims to train software developers who understand the development process from the initial idea to commissioning and can implement it on the basis of current technologies.
This degree programme is the right choice for you if you are enthusiastic about software development and want to put this enthusiasm into practice professionally on the basis of a solid foundation.
The Software Engineering and Connected Systems degree programme is offered part-time. This form makes it easier for working beginners to switch to this field. Existing software developers bring in their experience and take the next step in their career through the degree programme.

Bachelor's degree programme - 6 semesters
Computer science degree
Bachelor of Science in Engineering - BSc or B.Sc.
Part-time (usually every fortnight Friday 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 8.30 a.m. to 5.15 p.m., additionally one attendance block per semester (Thurs. - Sat. all day), 40 % distance learning or extended part-time (study programme extended by two semesters, resulting in a lower semester load)

The University of Applied Sciences Bachelor's degree programme in Software Engineering and Connected Systems accepts 25 applicants per year.

Applications received by the deadline will be considered in the admission procedure for the coming academic year. Registration takes place via the online registration.
Personal admission interview
The admission interviews (individual appointments) take place from March onwards. The contents of the admission interview range from the topics of previous education and personal access to the Bachelor's degree programme at the University of Applied Sciences to already existing professional experience and future professional expectations of the applicants.
Decision on admission
The applicants are assessed, ranked and notified of their admission. Applicants without a firm acceptance will be placed on a waiting list and will be moved up in the case of non-admitted applicants. Applications that are submitted late can only be considered if there are free places.
Deposit
After the binding allocation of a place, University of Applied Sciences Burgenland collects a deposit of € 350 from students to secure their place. This deposit is refunded to active students after the end of the first semester. If an applicant does not fulfil the admission requirements before the start of the programme (e.g. did not pass the resit of the school-leaving examination, did not pass the additional qualification examination, etc.), the deposit is also refunded. In all other cases, the deposit is forfeited.
Graduates work in companies of all sizes that conceive, design, implement, test, commission and operate software.
In job advertisements, you will also find the following job descriptions in the respective fields: software development ( programmer, human interface designer), project and quality management ( project manager, requirements engineer), IT consulting ( consultant, security expert), sales and marketing, training and support ( product manager, key account manager).
The following three professions are representative of many other career fields:
Software developers plan, design and programme applications used across a wide range of sectors – from mobile apps and business software to networked systems in industry. They work with modern programming languages, test their software for errors and ensure that applications function efficiently, securely and user-friendly. Their work forms the basis for innovation and digitalisation in almost every sector.
Software architects design the overarching structure of complex software systems. They decide which technologies to use, define interfaces and modules, and ensure scalability, maintainability and security. As the key point of contact within the development team, they ensure that all components work together seamlessly and are sustainable in the long term – both technically and organisationally.
Test managers are responsible for software quality assurance. They develop test strategies, organise test processes and analyse results in order to identify and rectify errors at an early stage. In doing so, they work closely with developers and project managers. Through their work, they ensure that software products can be put into operation reliably, are user-friendly and are secure.
