Quality and Knowledge Management

The Quality and Knowledge Management Department supports the university in further developing and securing its strategic, academic and administrative services. It creates the framework conditions for a learning organisation in which quality is continuously reviewed, knowledge is made available in a structured manner and sustainable improvements are initiated.

Areas of responsibility

Course evaluation is one of the core instruments within the framework of quality assurance in teaching and study operations at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland. We have been using this feedback instrument for years - this is how we have succeeded in building up a good culture of evaluation.

The University of Applied Sciences Burgenland uses a process-oriented quality management system (PQMS) for quality assurance, further development and legally compliant implementation of university processes. The Quality and Knowledge Management Department , Rectorate Directorate structures and documents all relevant processes at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland. In this way, work steps are made transparent, responsibilities of involved organisational units and interfaces are defined and process variants are presented.

QM circles are held at regular intervals with various stakeholder groups, e.g.:

Accreditation

Every degree programme offered at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland is quality-assured and accredited by the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation.

Accreditation applications for new degree programmes are carried out by a development team entrusted by the course-providing body in accordance with the University of Applied Sciences Accreditation Ordinance.

The Quality and Knowledge Management Department, Rectorate Directorate supports this process with relevant documents, data material and information.

Audit

In 2020/2021, the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland again underwent an audit according to §22 HS-QSG and now has a valid certification of the internal quality management system by the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (valid until 2028).

Certification

The certifications of the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland serve to continuously improve the process-orientated quality management system, contribute to transparent processes and high standards in education management and serve to ensure occupational safety.
ISO 9001 is an internationally recognised standard for quality management systems. It ensures that our internal processes are clearly defined, efficiently designed and continuously optimised.
ISO 21001 defines specific requirements for educational organisation. It supports the effective fulfilment of learning needs and the targeted improvement of educational processes.
ISO 45001 focuses on occupational health and safety management. It helps to minimise risks in the workplace, protect the health of employees and create a safe working environment. 
These certifications increase internal efficiency and structure and promote trust among customers, partners and employees.

Provision of information about academic operations to students, staff, finance and R&D.
Organisation, data control and reporting responsibility lie within the area of quality management.

The department is responsible for several quality circles at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, participates in others as a member, and is also represented in external committees.
